PROGRAM OVERVIEW 

The Black Girls in the Lead (B.GILD) program, a flagship program of Sisters Keepers (SK), is a transformative leadership and empowerment initiative designed for Black girls aged 12–18. The program provides a nurturing and dynamic platform where young girls can discover their voices, build leadership capacity, and take bold steps toward making meaningful change in their communities. At the core of the program is a strong commitment to leadership development, mentorship, community service, and global sisterhood. 

Selected participants will join a vibrant, global sisterhood of young leaders and changemakers committed to building a more just and joyful world. Through the B.GILD program, they will have the opportunity to lead purpose-driven projects, champion mental health and social justice, and make lasting impact in their communities.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS  

1.Leadership & Community Service Training 

A hybrid six-week training curriculum forms the backbone of the program. It focuses on: 

  • Leadership Development 

  • Project Management 

  • Mental Health & Self Care

  • Community Service Planning & Execution

Sessions are held weekly and coordinated by Keepers, combining virtual instruction with community based practices. 

2.Mentorship

Each participant is paired with a mentor for consistent support. There would also be group mentoring, peer-peer mentorship sessions and weekly mentorship sessions.

3.Community Service 

The selected girls will be expected to complete 20 hours of service in their communities  by identifying and working on a passion project that addresses a pressing community need aligned with selected United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). 

4.Summer Institute 

Two girls will be selected from each country to attend the Summer Institute in Kenya, enhancing their leadership and community engagement skills.

JUNE 2025: Applications

JULY - AUGUST 2025: 6 Weeks Leadership & Community Training 

AUGUST 2025: Participate in the in-person Summer Institute in Kenya 

WHO CAN APPLY? 

To be eligible, applicants must: 

  1. A young black girl aged between 12 - 18 years 

  2. A young black girl living in Nigeria, UK, US, Kenya & Jamaica 

  3. A young black girl Passionate about making a difference

  4. A young black girl ready to meet other inspiring girls from around the world

  5. A young black girl available to participate in all components of the programme.
